The Rio Scanning Laser Hair Removal system can be used in the comfort of your own home and is a cost effective alternative to expensive salon treatments. It uses its unique laser hair removal technology to remove 20 hairs at a time. The device destroys the hair follicle by emitting a laser with enough power to destroy the hair root without having any impact on the surrounding skin. A few treatments may be required to get the permanent results that you want, as is the case with all laser treatments. How does the Rio Scan Laser work? The Rio Scanning Laser works by emitting a single beam of colour with a wavelength that can range between 600-1100nm (nano meter). Skin is transparent to some extend to laser light of this wavelength, although it gets absorbed by concentrated melanin structures like found in hair and hair follicles. Melanin are pigments and structures that give skin it’s natural colour and when these pigments in their concentrated form absorbs the light the rapid heating action of the laser causes the follicles to get obliterated resulting in permanent reduction of hair. For which skin types is laser hair removal suitable? The evenly spread melanin present in the outer layer of the skin (or epidermis) also absorbs the laser energy to some extend which limits the depth of penetration of the laser light into the skin. Using a laser with a wavelength of 808nm enables treatment of slightly darker skin as well as fair skin. However, laser hair treatment is not recommended for Afro Caribbean or black skin complexions. Laser treatment is also not effective in removing white or grey hairs. In these cases electrolysis can be an alternative hair removal treatment. Laser hair removal can be used on sensitive skin, as it mainly treats the hair and the hair follicles not the surrounding skin. How can I prepare my skin for laser hair removal? Use the Rio Salon Scan Laser on hairs of 1-3mm long for best results. So it is advised that you trim the hair before hand. You can also shave the hairs a few days before treatment, as long as the hair is visible enough. Laser hair removal works best on pale skin with dark hairs, so sunbathing before treatment may cause treatment to less effective. How of often can I repeat Laser Hair Removal treatment? As long as the hair follicle and the surrounding area is not red, inflamed or sore, after treatment it is safe to use after 24 hours. Most people wait 2-4 weeks between treatments to see which hairs have been shed and to identify new re-grown hairs. The timing for follow-up treatments can be done at own discretion. However, avoid treating the same region excessively as this could cause redness and swelling of the area. How many treatments will be required? Permanent laser hair removal in general is most effective if it is done a few times over the course of 6 months. Results can differ from person to person, and it depends on the hair thickness, hair colour and the area that’s being treated. Because the Rio Scanning Laser Hair Removal system needs hair to be present to work it is not advised that you use any hair removal methods that remove the hair from the root. These include methods like plucking the hair, waxing, epilation, and tweezing. Doing this between treatments can cause the system to be ineffective. It is fine to shave, use micro-dermabrasion discs and cream depilatories between treatments.
